*SQUEEEEEEE*
*still dancing happy jig of elation*
To follow up my last post, I've compiled the nitty-gritty of my journey. Or really, EVER's journey. Now that I'm here, and EVER will not be shelved (phew) and will actually see the light of day (OMG!) ...
How did I get here?
What did it take?
I know how you sickos like to see the numbers (heck, we all do!), so here you go.
My road to publication, simplified to number form:
When I began writing seriously: July of 2009
When I began writing EVER: September of 2010
Number of completed novels/manuscripts: 1
(So far ... but let's not even talk about how many WIPS I have right now.)
Total Queries Sent to Agents: 169*
*NOTE: Almost half of these are duplicates because I re-queried after I found my crit partner and totally revamped my story/query letter.
Total Rejections: 85**
**NOTE: Following that last note, some of these are double rejections. As in, they rejected the first and second versions of EVER. Ouchie.
Total No-Reply-At-Alls: 84
(I can't even begin to tell you how irksome the no-response-is-our-response can be for a querying writer. But whatevs.)
Total FULL Requests: 5
Total PARTIAL Requests: 3
Total Offers of Rep: 0
(Insert fist shaking and "I'm the next JK Rowling" rant here. HAHAHAHA! I'm kidding. I wrote my very first blog post about THAT, remember?)
Total Queries Sent to Publishers: 5

Perseverance FTW!
I loved reading this. It only really takes one yes as they say. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI started writing seriously in 2009 too, August to be exact.
I'm a geek for numbers, and I can't wait to make a post like this for myself...someday...I hope.
ReplyDeleteNow, don't forget to change Ever's status bar over here to the right. Mark that puppy SOLD! -->
Yes!!!!!!!
DeleteEeeek! You're right! I totally forgot to do that!
DeleteI think it's always helpful to see how tough it can be to finally get that "yes". But it just takes one!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your very exciting news! I'm thrilled that I'll be able to pick EVER off the shelves and read the entire thing!
ReplyDeleteI also love this post Jessa! You're clearly a very talented writer...thankfully you have the perseverance to match it! I look forward to reading about your journey as it continues!
Thank you so much for saying such wonderful things. I guess I do have perseverance, though I think I'm just stubborn. lol ;-)
DeleteYAY!! Congrats!!! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you, Monica!! Its pretty surreal! I keep saying that, but I can't think of a more fitting word. :-)
DeleteCongratulations! That's awesome!
ReplyDeleteHey Jessa, Sorry about contacting you here, but I didn't know how else to get in touch. I gave you an award! You can see it at http://inkinthebook.blogspot.com/2012/06/youve-been-inked-award.html
ReplyDeleteAlso, are you interested in an interview?
Thanks!
