THE GATHERING DARKNESS by Lisa Collicutt (RELEASES ON 9/22/12!)

Oh, haiiii, have you seen this cover!?!? Gorgeous!

I just finished proofreading THE GATHERING DARKNESS, and felt compelled to write a little review. I'm not the best book reviewer ever, I know that. Usually I'm just gushing about a book I loved, or saying meh about a book I hated. (Well, that's not entirely true. If I hated it, I'll just keep quiet. I'm not in the business of breaking authors' hearts.)

On that note, here's my disclaimer - regardless of what you may think about me reviewing a friend's book, or reviewing a book by another Curiosity Quills author - I want you to know that if I've read a book by someone I know and did not like it, I will NEVER write a review saying otherwise. So though people may think i am a biased reviewer, I can assure you I am not.

So, with that said ...

I LOVED this book. LOVED IT.

I am thrilled to share a publishing house with Lisa Collicutt and can't wait to read more of her work.

Congratulations on your upcoming 9/22 BOOK BIRTHDAY, Lisa!!!

Here's my Goodreads review:

I REALLY loved this book. I received the final draft to proofread, and half of me is worried that I was too engulfed in the book to catch mistakes. It was so good! I had the pleasure of reading this without having ANY idea what it was about - hadn't even read the blurb. This made for a very mysterious ride, and kept me guessing throughout.

I haven't read many books about witchcraft or witches, but I loved - LOVED! - the take on witchcraft in THE GATHERING DARKNESS.

Brooke was a girl with a past - not a bad past per se, and not one we really get a feel for, but I didn't mind not knowing all of her history. Lisa Collicut managed to make me feel for the character and connect with er, without bogging the book down with back story. I really liked Brooke - she was awkward in moments that would make teenaged girls awkward, and strong when it really counted. She seemed very realistic to me.

Marcus - *swoon* - was a dark and brooding love interest, but not in a bad way. He was never rude to Brooke, or stand-offish like so many of our favorite YA bad-boys tend to be. I loved him instantly.

I DEFINITELY recommend this book. You will not be sorry.

FIVE STARS. Easily.

  1. Um, wow . . . I've been looking at this blank white rectangle for some time now not really knowing what to say. Now that I've come out of my shock, I guess I'll start with, thank you immensely, Jessa.

When someone really likes your creation, it's almost exactly how proud you feel when people gush over your kids, but even more-so. The author creates their book, word for word, exactly how they want the story to play out. They create characters they love, and can only hope that someone else falls in love with them too. So when someone does, it's the highest compliment you can pay a writer - in my opinion.

    1. I know exactly how you feel, Lisa, and I am equally happy as a reader, to be able to so easily love a story! You made it super easy with TGD. I loved every second of it.
